NYMAP Youth Video Exchange Network

Introduction: what can this website do?

YVXN is an online community of youth media producers, facilitators, and educators. Within this community there are Individual Users and Member Organizations. As a part of this community, you can share blog entries, media education resources, and video content.

Each Individual User:

Each Member Organization:

How Does It Work? What we are talking about here is really not a complex technological system. It is a grassroots network which utilizes Drupal software to allow users to create and manage content on the website, thereby decentralizing the workload.

It can be summed up in a couple simple steps:

  • 1. A site joins the NYMAP network by filling out a partnership application.
  • 2. the partner site is granted membership privileges on the YVXN website.
  • 3. The partner site compresses video files and shares them using an array of optional tools.
  • 4. For every video available to be shared, the partner creates a Video Entry, which is added to the site and can be search according to a number of pre-determined categories.
  • 5. Every month, each partner fills out a monthly usage form. This enables NYMAP to keep track of how all the partners are using the media that they download and if we are actually making a positive impact. That’s it really. The website will also allow users to post news articles, curriculum, and other resources. What we hope will materialize is a network of resources (videos, curriculum, tips, and contact information) which is able to facilitate a growth in youth media programming – whatever that might mean in a given community. Of course, we don’t want to totally downlplay the fact that there are technical aspects to participation in the network, but we hope to demystify it as much as possible.
